Colombo, address book – Colonial Atmosphere

The Gallery Café

It is the trendy place of Colombo. Former office of the famous Sri Lankan architect Geoffrey Bawa, it now houses an art gallery, a shop and a cafe where it is good to lunch or brunch on Sunday. The Paradise Road brand has two other shops near the Viharamahadevi Park, one for small trendy decorative objects and the other for larger furniture. Do not hesitate to have them delivered abroad if you crave for a full service decorated with elephant, this works very well!

Barefoot Garden Café

Here you can buy superb fabrics, books and other small souvenir gifts. You can lunch on site (delicious black pork curry)

Hindu Temple Sri Ponnambala Vaneswara

Superb temple built around 1860. We were lucky enough to arrive during a religious ceremony. Well, I grant you, we did not understand everything but the atmosphere of the place and the faithful is really incredible; between the darkness, the candles, the songs … Really a must see!

Buddhist Temple Gangaramaya Temple

This temple is a real cave of Ali Baba! It is made up of an accumulation of Buddha representations in all its forms (the Buddha at the end of fasting is quite impressive), offerings of all kinds (from vintage cars to glasses, watches etc …) without forgetting the appointed elephant that comes to be blessed at fixed time.
