The Kandy House is a unique ancestral manor house (Walauwa) providing seclusion and serenity for its guests in a lush, tropical garden setting, close to Kandy. This amazing 200-year-old house has been built by Ratwatte Adigar, Chief Minister of the last King of Kandy in 1804. The kingdom at that time forbade any but the royal residences to use roofing tiles but the ambitious Ratwatte Adigar had the nerve to built himself a replica palace with two storey of terracotta tiles. Two hundred years later, Geoffrey’s Bawa’s (the iconic Sri Lankan Architect) protégé Channa Daswatte initiated a sensitive renovation that kept the essence of the villa untouched but brought it into the 21st century standards.
It is well-placed to explore a broad selection of Sri Lanka’s primary destinations in the Cultural Triangle and Tea Country.
The house comprises of 9 individually decorated bedrooms including five Deluxe and four larger Ultra rooms each with their own personal butler. You can also book the whole villa! Children over 12 only (for safety reasons).
